'The Great Carrier Bag Wave'

Further out to sea from the location of
Hokusai's Great Wave lies the North Pacific Gyre.
This vortex of ocean currents is also known as the
Great Pacific Garbage Patch due to the exceptionally high concentrations of plastic and other man-made debris suspended in the water.
In my drawing 'The Great Carrier Bag Wave' I've copied a section of Hokusai's woodblock print. I've replaced the boats with strips of plastic carrier bags to represent some of the estimated 100 million tons of debris that's currently polluting the area.
